Betfred’s approach is six pronged with gaming, casino, lotto, poker, bingo and of course sports betting available. The Betfred home page is very clear, minimalistic and easy on the eye. It does a good job of making it easy for users to reach their destination, and although the sportsbook is a little slow to load, it’s pretty easy to navigate. The left menus make it easy to find the sports and markets you’re looking for and the website does a good job of putting Betfred’s special offers in the shop window on each page.
Having grown from the humble beginnings of a solitary shop in Salford in 1967, Betfred are spread across the north and have built their presence in sport with various sponsorships such as that of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and operations have now moved to Gibraltar. You can use the website in both euros and pounds.
If you’re a new customer with Betfred, there’s a range of welcome bonuses worth exploiting. The simplest of them all is depositing and staking £5 on Games. If you do this you’ll be entitled to 25 free spins, the return value of which you keep in cash. Even if you don’t really intend to use the games section, it’s possibly a quick buck and your balance is transferable to other sections of the site, such as the sportsbook. Similarly in the Casino you’ll get 50 free spins if you stake £10, and if Lotto is your thing, you’ll be entitled to a welcome bonus of a £25 matched bet. The sportsbook offer is the standout one for regular bettors, though. Bet £10 and you’ll receive £30 in free bets. Whilst you don’t get the £30 returned on any winning bets, you’re entitled to all of the winnings in cash!
Free Bet T's & C's - New UK & NI Customers Only, 18+. To qualify first bet of at least £10 (in ONE bet transaction) with odds of Evens (2.0) or bigger. £30 in free bets credited and expire after 7 days. Free Bets stakes not returned with winnings. T's & C's Apply.
The initial impression is a positive one. It’s easy to find your way around, there’s lot of well placed promotions on show and the light text on Betfred’s signature blue background makes the website an easy read. Things aren’t quite as tidy when it comes to the sportsbook and things do remain quite minimalistic, but that has it’s advantages when it comes to easy navigation.
Betfred offer reasonably strong and competitive odds where football is concerned, with occasional best odds on the Premier League and plenty of special offers and enhanced prices on Manchester United games.
You’ll find all major sports including football, horse racing, rugby, tennis and all US sport, plus outright markets on golf, boxing, athletics, darts and much, much more including lottery specials and political offerings.
For major sporting events there are just as many odds available
There is a mobile app available that allows you to bet in-play and pre-match. You can download this on both iOS and Android, but the app has been heavily criticised. The app has a habit of telling members to enable location services to use it (even though they already are) and it seems to auto logout members regularly.
Betfred does offer the cash out feature. It isn’t available for all sports and markets, but it’s widely available when it comes to football betting. It’s wise to remember that Cash Out always offer questionable value, and you could be left to regret writing a bet off a loser and cutting your losses too early. A better use of cash out maybe when a speculative bet with multiple legs is in a strong and profitable position and you want to lock that profit in.
Deposits are instant whilst it takes withdrawals up to 48 hours to process. Whilst you’ll surely want that cash in your bank instantly, 48 hours is pretty good compared to a number of bookmakers. You’ll be able to both deposit and withdraw with debit cards, credit cards, Neteller, PayPal, Moneybookers (Skrill), Bank Transfers and Ukash.
There don’t seem to be any security concerns around using the Betfred website. Betfred trade as Petre Limited (Gibraltar) is licensed and regulated by the Gambling Commission of Great Britain for UK based customers, and the Gibraltar Government and Gibraltar Gambling Commissioner for those based elsewhere.
The help section provides an extensive FAQ and on the left menu you’ll find options to contact Betfred. Unfortunately there seems to be no live chat service which is always most convenient, but each department has multiple emails and telephone numbers to contact.
